MNP – Are you changing your provider?

Mobile Number Portability.

The ability to change your mobile service provider without changing your number. This is great respite to customers who are tired of the dirty tricks played by the service providers.

Dirty tricks? Like what!?

Well, AFAIK, on AirTel, you sometimes get automagically subscribed to value added services (VAS) like “Airtel Friends Chat” or “Airtel Radio”. This is really annoying, especially for my friends who spend very low on mobile phones. But the customer care guys are helpful enough to put the credit back in to your account if you swear a bit.

On 14th January, a customer rep “Madhuri” called and asked me if I am happy with their service. Yes – was my reply. Yesterday, I called AirTel customer care again and told them that I’m switching to Vodafone. When asked why, I simply replied – I liked the Vodafone theme song more than that of AirTel.
;)

Tweriod. How I got the idea.

In a chat with a client, I asked what he would like as a Twitter web application. He aptly replied – something that will tell me when my followers are active the most on Twitter.

I started thinking about this.

Yes, this is something people would love to use.

And I started working on Tweriod.

In two weeks, it was ready. Launched it on 11-1-11 — January 11,2011.

Thank you Rohit, Laya and Abraham for all the help :)

Matriculated!

After a long wait, the date was declared – 17th June 2010 (11 AM). I was expecting no more than 85% marks (no Best of Five).

I had been waiting for this to happen since 3 months. And finally, the day came. I got up a bit earlier and sticked to my computer to see if I can get my result well before time ;-) .

But I was unable to figure out anything. Finally, at 10:55 AM, the form where I had to put my roll number, appeared. I tried to submit it but the request failed. I tried again.

And I saw my result.

It showed 95.27% . I couldn’t believe it. I tried to calculate my marks(aggregate) and it turned out to be 93.25% .

I had scored 96/100 in Hindi-Sanskrit – something I had never even dreamed about.

The Supreme Court of India has declared that admissions to the class XI will be done according to Best Of Five and I’m looking forward towards 16th July 2010, when the admission process will begin.

PS – Sorry for posting so late :-D

In love with Fedora

I have been using Windows XP from past 6 years. In these 6 years, I can’t remember how many times I had formatted my HDD  due to viruses.

So, I decided to switch to Linux, which is also better for PHP development. I ordered free Ubuntu disc from Canionical. Installed Ubuntu . But I was unable to  configure it properly. And I ended up installing Windows XP again. Later, I found Kubuntu – an official derivative of Ubuntu which is used by developers ( point out if I am wrong). Installed it successfully, but was unable to configure it fully and gave up the thought.

And, four days ago, the thought of switching to Linux again came into mind when I had problem with EpiTwitter class of Jaisen Mathai because I was on Windows.

So, I decided to switch over to Linux, but not with Ubuntu or Kubuntu as I had read this and some other bloggers having same opinion.Linux has many distros (flavours, as they are known). And I decided to try out Fedora 12 .

I have all the things I need to develop PHP applications. I have installed -

FileZilla – a FTP client

Pidgin – a messenger

Amarok – music player

NetBeans – (PHP) IDE

TweetDeck for tweeting :-)

and ofcourse (L)AMP.

Until now, I haven’t experinced any problems. And I am happy with my desktop powered by Fedora.

Here’s a screenshot -

P.S : If you are confused about what distro to choose, you can try out Fedora( that’s only a free advice although :P ).

Updates :

1. The exam which was about to start today , is postponed with a reason that the school authorities

have came to know that we haven’t completed our studies . Is this a reason for postponing ? Might

be some other problem , but we haven’t been told about it. Anyways , doesn’t matters to us.

2 . It is from 8th January. Just the day before PHPCamp. They should have started it from Monday  :( ( .
